HB- YOUR FAMILIAR WITH THE ART WORLD, WHAT BEAUTY ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE SOMEONE GOING FOR A JOB IN AN ART GALLERY?

BH- TONE IT DOWN. KEEP IT SHARP AND SIMPLE. WHATEVER YOU DO DON’T TRY SOMETHING INTERESTING.

HB- I heard a rumour that days before you moved to Aukland to open up a new store & meet all your employees you got a botched up balayage do. Was there ANYONE in NZ who could help you?

YEAH THIS WAS SUCH A NIGHTMARE. I FOUND A SNARKY, BEAUTIFUL, BRUTAL FRENCH STYLIST WHO WAS WORKING IN A SALON THAT HE HAD NOTHING BUT CONTEMPT FOR. WE SAW EYE TO EYE IMMEDIATELY AND BITCHED ABOUT THE OTHER STAFF AND CUSTOMERS WHILE HE BASICALLY CHOPPED OUT 10 INCHES OF HAIR. WE AGREED THAT I JUST NEED TO WEAR IT UP UNTIL IT GROWS PAST THE CHIN OF MY PERFECTLY ROUND FACE.

HB- SOS I’ve just been to Dresdon to get my eyes tested & the optometrist tells me I’ve got lice in my eyelashes. Is there any lotion that Dresdon sells to help get rid of them? and can you catch eyelash lice by sharing mascara? and MOST importantly do I need to throw out my $105 Chanticaille mascara?

YES- BLEPHADEX STINGS LIKE HELL BUT GETS THOSE CREEPS PUT OF YOUR LASHES. YEP- SHARING IS NOT RECOMMENDED. NO WAY- WE WON’T TELL IF YOU DON’T TELL.

hb- whats your all time favourite doo?

jh- my all time favourite doo day to day would be a bob but i have always taken inspiration from the Kayapo tribe in brazil and the way they cut hair.

hb- what’s the best way to shave your face?

jh- all depending on what you want, the history of a cut throat is pretty cool though.

hb- have you ever totally botched someone’s hair?

jh- unfortunately not but one stylist i worked with did and apparently she had to take xanax to go out in public with it, which i absolutely love.

hb- what shouldn’t someone ask you in the salon?

jh- if i listen to ed sheeran, my eyes tend to twitch and i cant focus.

hb- who is your hair muse?

jh- Definitely Raymond Bessone, he did hair from the 30s to the 60s.

hb- What is the best part about working at Lucky Buster?

jh- the best part about lb is the music and the crew we have here. everyone is quite different but gel really well together.

hb- whats the best hair you’ve ever had?

jh- this hair i had that was quite bone chilling and grotty which i love.

hb- whats the best hair you’ve ever given someone?

jh- my favourite hair to do was this shoot i did. i incorporated old tools and equipment i used from when i was a tradie and used cat hair collected from a cat brush from home, pretty gross.

hb- if you could do one celebs hair to do who would it be & what would you do?

jh- maybe donald trump so i could rip of his toupee off and slap his shiny peanut head.

hb- whats your favourite hair styling product?

jh- i have been loving fat boy hair for a while now, mainly used for short hair but i have been playing around with it to style longer hair.

HB- WHAT’S YOUR BEST HANGOVER BEAUTY CURE?

HP- I love jumping in the shower and using Mario Badescu Botanical Body Soap- the scent just gets rid of any remnants from the night before and you feel really fresh again. Then when I get out of the shower I love to lather my face in Dr Dennis Gross Triple C Peptide Firming Serum for some colour and life back in the skin. My dream hangover cure would be to not drink because it’s SO feral for your skin.

HB- WHATS YOUR BEST SUPERMARKET/DRUGSTORE BEAUTY HACK ?

HP- A little bit of toothpaste on any spots to dry them overnight!

HB- WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST BEAUTY BLUNDER OVER THE YEARS?

HP- This really interesting asymmetrical I once got with a really short bob. It was a little too sci-fi for me to handle. Also when I used lip smackers in high school and got addicted to them and was waking up in the night to reapply this cheap strawberry shake flavour to my lips.

HP- Shirley Manson from Garbage which I never really saw but I’ll take it.

HP- Heidi Montag- she went full surgery then managed to COME back to normal levels of surgery. Heidi always looked great though no matter what phase she was in.

HP-Hourglass- any of their nude shades are super lush.

HB- Tell me about yourself in a few sentences

HH- We are Harriet Hudson & Sophie Kahl, from jus zine & jus ig account. We’re also in a band together called the SKIDS. We haven’t put out a zine or updated our account in a while but stay tuned coz we are hard at work to bring you jus issue 6 soon.

HB- What’s your best hangover beauty cure?

HH- I go for something unscented if I feel crook, like Keihls Ultra Facial Moisturiser, or maybe some crushed up codeine made into a face mask, lol.

sk- hydration is your best friend so after a discover shower (where you scrub from head to toe and discover crevices you didn’t even know existed) try splashing some aesop parsley seed face serum maybe mixed with a couple of drops of their fabulous face oil, the serum has an aloe vera base so is deeply hydrating and will calm any redness- also keep a hydrating mist like mario badescu in the fridge and spritz hourly while watching your fave reality teev show.

HB- Whats your best supermarket/drugstore beauty hack ?

HH- I like using paw paw ointment as eye cream or egyptian magic if i am feeling fancy. Also obsessed Witch Hazel.

sk- agree with harriet, witch hazel is fantastic for cleansing and minimising pores- and the price is right! I would also add an original dove beauty bar to the list-honestly works wonders as a face cleanser.

HB- What has been your biggest beauty blunder over the years?

HH- Definitely my shitty white goth foundation in high school & fugly eyeliner.

sk- yeap, bad eyeliner for me too oh and straightening my (naturally very curly) hair!

HB- Who is your beauty muse?

HH- Probably the hot women I hang out with IRL

sk- hmm i would have to say a cross between josephine de la baume (for her effortless french sexiness) and joan jett.

HB- Who does the best mani/pedi in Melbourne?

HH- Definitely La Belle on Johnston Street, Fitzroy. They do a good brow tint too.

sk-eternal nails and beauty at northcote plaza, the quality and price is great and you can pop in and get a deganis coffee to have while getting pampered.

HB- Who have you been told you look like?

HH- Courtney Love

sk- shanon doherty (with a pixie crop)

HB- What’s your personal scent?

HH- I love using the Aesop original scent deodorant as perfume, and I also love “Sexy Witch” by Demeter, both of these are cheap options too

sk- i love the this works range at mecca- their skin deep beauty oil is devine and i reapply throughout the day- it also mixes well with the tom ford perfume range such as grey vetiver.

HB- What are 3 products you cant live without?

HH- It Cosmetics 50+ CC Cream, My Parlux Advance Light Hairdryer & a decent brow product like the Hourglass Arch Brow Expert or the “gimme brow” by Benefit

sk-a good cleanser, like the dermalogica one ideally used with an automatic face brush such as the olay version which actually spins around (as apposed to the clarisonic that just buzzes), a go to daily face moisturiser. at the moment im using endota spa spf 50+ daily defence cream as a base before applying foundation- its a god send for sensitive skin.

HB- Which celeb has the best work done?

HH- Kylie Jenner

sk- i feel like jennifer lopez simply doesn’t age, it’s insane.

HB- Favourite Lipstick

HH- Any Dark red/brown/mum vibes

sk- im into just a clear gloss or for a bit more of a dressy look im liking the glossier, generation g matte lipstick in ‘jam’ which is a red berry colour. hot tip you can buy any cosmetics from the usa all you need to do is create an account with australian post called shopmate. they set you up with your own usa shipping address and forward on parcels!
